Bata, the famous Indian footwear brand has signed up a deal with Aamir Khan for his upcoming movie “Beta se Bata Tak”. The lead character, Gharchor Das, played by Aamir Khan, would be seen wearing customized bright blue Bata plastic slippers in the entire movie.
Industry critics are claiming this to be Bata’s answer to the branding exercise of Reebok in ‘My name is Khan’. But if B-town gossip is to believed it is Aamir who paid Bata for the deal since he wanted to immortalize his love for slippers. Earlier he had immortalized his love for vodka in the famous 3 Idiots song.
Gharchor In Quest For His Blue Slippers
Chiman Dhakamar, Head of Marketing at Bata, addressed a press conference saying, “The movie is a love triangle between Aamir’s character Gharchor Das, his mother and his Bata slippers. The chappals were bought by his mother as a gift on his coming second in class for best body art but soon he develops more love for the slippers than for the mother. Gharchor develops this love because even when he goes to toilet it is the slippers that accompany him and not his mother. Even when his mother is not around it is the slippers that are there for him.” He continued, “The movie takes a twist when the mother throws the slippers thinking that it had worn out. Gharchor does not believe his mother because it was high quality plastic Bata slippers. Gharchor cannot withstand the trauma of losing his childhood love and suffers from Oneirophrenia. He leaves his mother in quest for his love, his blue Bata slippers. The rest of the movie is a suspense thriller.”

Dhakamar added, “The film was originally named ‘Dil toh chappal mein rakha hai’ but we chose this new name as it would give us a better brand visibility. We wish to auction the used slippers and also introduce a Aamir range of slippers that will have Aamir’s pic on the sole.”
A spot boy we contacted said, “Rakhi Sawantji will be seen shaking her booty to an item number, “Bata ki garmi”, in which all the side dancers are bare foot but the item girl is wearing high heel Bata slippers. In the climax of the movie there is a scene in which Bata chappal is used as a body by Aamirji to stop bullets when his master plan of destroying Patna by flooding with his water cannon is intercepted by Bihar police.” The spot added, “But he loses to the poleic because he doesn’t know that Lallu is gone, it is Nitish now. ”
All in all, Bata slippers get high visibility in the film along with addressing its core features. The movie is stated to release in June, when the demand for slippers is highest owing to heavy rains. Multiplex goers may also get a chance to win a pair of Aamir’s bathroom slippers with every combo purache gold class ticket with cheese popcorn.
Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Salman Khan is having difficulties choosing between Relaxo and Liberty for his upcoming movie “Kabhi Slipper Kabhi Shoes”. Bollywood surely loves its footwears.
